just a little bit about me…

I fill many roles.

I’m a User Experience Architect at Ascentium, an experience agency full of smart, dedicated people who I feel privileged to work with.

I’m an Educator. I am currently instructing User Experience Design (HCDE 418) at the University of Washington. Previously, I was a Professor of Interior Design at Savannah College of Art and Design.

I’m a Student.
I am currently earning my Master of Science in Human Centered Design and Engineering at the UW. I expect to finish in March, 2011.

In 2005 I earned a Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design from SCAD. My thesis was about using environmental psychology to provide affordances for multidisciplinary design education. I love the haptic nature and craft involved in textile design, and almost completed a Master of Arts in Fibers concurrently with my MFA, but decided that was overkill.

My Bachelor of Arts is from Hampshire College, which is a bit of a choose-your-own adventure institution. I received a well-rounded liberal arts education there, but it aligns most closely with a degree in “Communications.”

I’m passionate about design in any form, reading academic papers, touching letterpress stationary, making felt, smelling silk, cooking spicy food, merlot, indie rock shows, and most importantly my husband and our two rescue mutts.

I pretend that my nose piercing is somehow warding off my 40th birthday. Humor me.
